THE “WHAT ARE AUSTRALIAN VALUES” ON OTW CREATES COMMENT .

"You have no need to worry, I.Saydi, as most of us only ask that you live a good life and show respect for our ways. You do not have to adopt the practices of people who cheat Centrelink, throw things at other people and ignore those who need help in the street, because most of us abhor those things too. My OTW (On the Wallaby) of last night , written after reading I Saydi’s Letter to the Editor, attracted some comment and most of the emails I received today either backed, or nearly did, my point of view as I expressed.

The letter above and which was published in today’s Sydney Morning Herald had the same tone as others printed-all of which gives me great heart that the decent streak in Australians is still alive and pumping.

This country has an enormous and positive part to play in future world events and it appears apparent to me that our role in keeping the Sino-American-Japan-India relationship stable is going to be a big one indeed and one that will require the Australian governments of the future to really look to what are our core values.

Just as Big Business has a penchant for ripping the innards out of small business (and having waged battle as a guerrilla fighter for small business for four decades I know all too well the repercussions), so too do big and powerful nations do likewise to smaller States.

Our role, with our core Australian values in mind, will no doubt infuriate both American (especially) and Chinese interests but it may well come to pass in years hence that the world owes Australia a great big debt for keeping the big boys apart!

How good would it be to see these values also used to tippy toe through the Israeli/ Palestinian imbroglio and bring peace to that part of the world?

C’mon Australia, stand up and be counted!!
