I RECKON VINCE WAS RIGHT!

“To win, the team must somehow get the feeling that there is dedication coming from the top”

Legendary American gridiron football coach and motivator Vince Lombardi, the man who took the Green Bay Packers from ignominy to greatness, wrote those words and they very much have a place to play in Australian business today.

As we set our course forward under a Parliament now ruled completely by John Howard’s team, industrial relations is already rearing it’s head as a major issue and whilst I do not intend to enter the pros and cons here, it strikes me that many businesses, of all sizes, can save some major heart ache by taking heed of Lombardi’s words.

Time after time the biggest complaint I hear from employees is that “the bosses don’t understand” or “the bosses don’t listen”. Fatal error that for if you wish to have an effective workforce, then I believe they must be in the loop about where you are taking the enterprise and why.

I would put it to you that a workforce that is aware, as Vince Lombardi’s quote says, of where you/they are going and why and how is a force that “gets the feeling there is dedication coming from the top”.

That to me then is a force that will enjoy their work and happy people tend not to create hassles and drama and everyone becomes a winner.
