HAS 6PR AFFECTED YOU LATELY?

No, I am not talking about the Perth AM radio station that has 6PR as its call sign.

What I am talking about is my acronym of 6PR which stands for “piss poor planning produces piss poor results”. Certainly not the politest one going around but, as I just found out to my cost, very accurate.

One of my lifelong dreams has been to sail an ocean in my own yacht, my own “little ship”, and despite having lived aboard a cruising yacht off Australia’s east coast for nearly four years, I had never made that transitional step to full blown “blue water” cruiser.

And so it therefore came that last December, my daughter and I planned to set sail from Sydney to Nelson NZ and back again in our yacht Seerauber and in the process, I believe we equipped her as well as any under 30 foot yacht in the country.

Be that as it may, and here 6PR came to bite me well and truly on the bum, the ship may have been ready but the crew weren’t, a fact that became apparent just a day or so into the voyage.

On realising this, and the fact that we had been too busy prior to departing being busy doing land based things such as auctions etc to actually go out and practice more than we had anticipated, I made a hard (given my dream) but easy (and obvious) decision that it was foolhardy indeed to carry on the way we were.

End result was certainly, I am sure in many peoples eyes, egg of my face but in that process I well and truly re-enforced within myself the lesson of 6PR that I had used constantly in both my training sessions and my book The Complete Guide to selling Real Estate by Auction.

So does 6PR have any grip within your enterprise?

Are you facing 2006 with the “she’ll be right” attitude and hoping that all will flow?

You may also, just as I found out when I turned the tiller of Seerauber to head her back to Sydney, find out that it is never too late to jettison 6PR and correct your enterprises course.
