WHAT’S IN IT FOR THEM?

With the internet today being as much part of business development as your socks are to walking, I am constantly amazed how many sites fail what I believe is the only question an internet site owner must ask.

That question?

“What’s in it for them” with ”them” being the person or people accessing the site!

Site after site, having cost the owner a fair bit of money, fails on that count and if you don’t believe me, look at your own site through “their eyes”. How easy is it to navigate, does the navigation pattern follow logically or are there too many clicks from start to the information you seek?

The internet has opened Australian business to the world and my business, the Fountain Auction Academy has now, in just six months, through utilising the internet (probably nowhere near fully yet though) seen us expand to where we are now conducting auctioneer and auction skills training across Australia and into New Zealand and the United States.

I just viewed a great example of progressive thinking when I looked at the website of two friends of mine, Burnett and Louise Joyce, who own and run the Gyranda Santa Gertrudis Stud near Theodore in Queensland. Not only does it have good photos and text, but readers can also view in English, Spanish or Portugese. This is an important factor as a growing area for export of Australian Santa Gertrudis pedigreed stock is into the southern States of the USA, Mexico and Brazil.

So if you are looking at developing your own site, grab some A4 pages and design it first, page by page with each page representing a click, and you will soon have a template that will answer the question of “what’s in it for them?”

Carpe diem
